This is the first time I have read this, but I recall that you have republished this general idea elsewhere. One way to characterize this idea is *buildings as transportation systems*. For example, dwellings have halls and stairwells for transportation between rooms. The rooms are arranged for convenience. Restrooms are well distributed, but there is usually one attached to the master bedroom. The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen.

Hospitals as transportation systems would be another interesting case.

However, there is one big difference between a Big Box store and a town: in a town, the streets are fully public rights-of-way. Aisles within a store are privately owned, but arguably semi-public.

Walmarts also have public restrooms, which are often hard to come by in small downtowns.
