What mediocre little things do you love?
The other week we were in Chapel Hill, but our hotel was on a service road off a commercial strip in Durham.
Not an upgrade from the last hotel, a pleasant downtown location in the neighboring small town of Carrboro. But I find a certain appeal in these utterly generic hotels off the highway. I’m not sure exactly why. Maybe they remind me of being a kid on vacation. I sometimes prefer them to Airbnb, where you can’t forget the fact that you’re in someone else’s house.
