A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to speak at an informal panel by a kind of Catholic/intellectual/socialite group focused on the arts. What does my beat have to do with the arts? Well, they understand that generously—architecture, urban design, and the idea of a beautiful or humane public realm are part of that. These are things that New Urbanists talk about a lot, and while they were once viewed by a lot of people as wonky or elitist, there are a lot of conservatives who care about these things too.
