The large text on the label is the name of the farm, and it looks like they use one label for everything they sell. In the bottom left corner it lists a number of goods like corn, soybeans, and as you guessed, gochugaru -- crushed red peppers.

Fascinating! I had not heard of the Agricultural Reserve. What other sprawling metro areas in the country have this kind of zoning? My sister-in-law lives in Burke, very close to the H-Mart there, also in an old Giant supermarket, and I am insanely jealous of that. I may beg her to send me a bag of sun-dried gochugaru from Green Hill Farm (meadow farm in Korean) and suggest that she check out the farm during corn season.

The contrast between Virginia sprawl and the Montgomery County choice to preserve some agricultural space is really interesting. Thanks for mentioning that. Great post!
